Comparative: tissues and cells

Β»Tissues, cell types and cell lines

BSC-40 cells were a continuous line of African green monkey cells derived from kidney BSC-1 cells (Hruby, et al., 1979). Cells were maintained as monolayer (adherent) cultures in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium.

HK-2: an immortalized proximal tubule epithelial cell line from normal adult human kidney.

NCI-H295R cells were adapted from the NCI-H295 pluripotent adrenocortical carcinoma cell line established by A.F. Gazdar and associates (1990) from a carcinoma of the adrenal cortex. While the original cells grew in suspension, the adapted cells were selected to grow in a monolayer. This cell line retains the ability to produce adrenal androgens. It is responsive to angiotensin II and potassium ions.

Jurkat cells are an immortalized line of T lymphocyte cells that are used to study acute T cell leukemia, T cell signaling, and the expression of various chemokine receptors susceptible to viral entry, particularly HIV. The Jurkat cell line was established from the peripheral blood of a 14 year old boy with T cell leukemia. Jurkat cells are also useful in science because of their ability to produce interleukin 2. Their primary use, however, is to determine the mechanism of differential susceptibility of cancers to drugs and radiation.

Human Peritoneal Mesothelial Cell (HPMC): Effect of high glucose on peritoneal mesothelial cell biology

143B.TK2: osteosarcoma-derived cell line: DMEM

SKO-007 (J3): human myeloma cell line: RPMI 1640

A-549: human lung carcinoma cell line: DMEM

HepG2: human hepatoma cell line: DMEM

Fibroblast strain GM056059C (derived from a 14 month-old human male individual): DMEM

HT22: Immortalized mouse hippocampal cell line. Adherent growth

PC12 is a cell line derived from a pheochromocytoma of the rat adrenal medulla. PC12 cells stop dividing and terminally differentiate when treated with nerve growth factor. This makes PC12 cells useful as a model system for neuronal differentiation.

Mv1Lu: Mink lung epithelial cell line

H460: lung cancer cells
