Abstract: This book is a tribute to three outstanding scientists, Professors Jan Anderson FRS, Leslie Dutton FRS and John Walker FRS, Nobel Laureate. Covering some of the most recent advances in the fields of Bioenergetics and Photosynthesis, this book is a compilation of contributions from leading scientists actively involved in understanding the natural biological processes associated with the flow of energy in biological cells. The lectures found in this significant volume were presented at a meeting in March 2016 in Singapore to commemorate the outstanding research in this area.

Selected quotes
- Jan Anderson passed away in August 2015. Just one month before her untimely death, she was in the UK and attended a meeting I had organised at the Royal Society on Artificial Photosynthesis. Despite being 83 she attended every lecture. This was typical of Jan who was devoted to science and photosynthesis in particular. Indeed she was the first to discuss how the photosynthetic electron chain was inserted via protein complexes into the thylakoid membrane in her influential review in BBA (Anderson, 1975). Her ideas were built on her pioneering biochemical work with Keith Boardman (Boardman and Anderson, 1964) and formed the basis of the concept of lateral heterogeneity of photosystem I (PSI) and photosystem II (PSII) in the thylakoid membranes of plants (Andersson and Anderson, 1980) which she developed with Bertil Andersson.
