Abstract:
In the presence of ADP, pyruvate formed from malate was rapidly oxidized to CO2 by pyruvate dehydrogenase. The production and oxidation of pyruvate occurred entirely within the mitochondrial matrix space. The results are consistent with a role for the NAD(P)+-dependent malic enzyme in net glutamine oxidation in undifferentiated hepatomas.
