== Feedback ==
::::'''Delegates feedback for future Training Schools'''
::::* Encourage more young people to participate
::::* Hands-on experience with mitochondrial respiration, particularly with the Oroboros O2k. Do we need to invite other platforms for these summer schools?
::::* Suggestion to send out a questionnaire
::::* The interaction between people only starts after the first few days, maybe we should have a welcome party + meet the expert sessions the night before the first day. Speed date sessions.
::::* The MiP school should not be only about respirometry, but also about other aspects of mitochondrial physiology. Maybe make a top 8 of subtopics of mitochondrial physiology, such as fluorescence microscopy, calcium handling, electron microscopy etc.
::::* Reproducibility. The hands-on session at the MiP school would be nice, but may prove to be logistically difficult. STSM’s would be more appropriate for this.
::::* Expert sessions: it was difficult to choose which experts would be appropriate. Maybe we can include a small CV, or a quick one-minute introduction before the session on the topics of each expert group.
::::* Introductory topics such as membrane potential measurements and ROS. Students would like to get a little more general introduction on mitochondrial physiology, so that the entrée level is not too high.
::::* What do people want from the MiP school? Do we need to ask for ‘burning questions’ from participants before the start of the MiP school?

Feedback

Delegates feedback for future Training Schools
  • Encourage more young people to participate
  • Hands-on experience with mitochondrial respiration, particularly with the Oroboros O2k. Do we need to invite other platforms for these summer schools?
  • Suggestion to send out a questionnaire
  • The interaction between people only starts after the first few days, maybe we should have a welcome party + meet the expert sessions the night before the first day. Speed date sessions.
  • The MiP school should not be only about respirometry, but also about other aspects of mitochondrial physiology. Maybe make a top 8 of subtopics of mitochondrial physiology, such as fluorescence microscopy, calcium handling, electron microscopy etc.
  • Reproducibility. The hands-on session at the MiP school would be nice, but may prove to be logistically difficult. STSM’s would be more appropriate for this.
  • Expert sessions: it was difficult to choose which experts would be appropriate. Maybe we can include a small CV, or a quick one-minute introduction before the session on the topics of each expert group.
  • Introductory topics such as membrane potential measurements and ROS. Students would like to get a little more general introduction on mitochondrial physiology, so that the entrĂ©e level is not too high.
  • What do people want from the MiP school? Do we need to ask for ‘burning questions’ from participants before the start of the MiP school?

Hotel suggestions

How to get there

  • By air
Portugal has two main airports: Lisbon Airport and Oporto Airport. Lisbon Airport is 200 km away from Coimbra while Oporto Airport is 130 km away. Lisbon is however a more convenient location to reach Coimbra.
  • Transfer from Lisbon Airport to Coimbra
By train
If you arrive arrives by plane to Lisbon you should take a cab (it should cost less than 10 dollars, or 5 to 7 Euros) to the train station Estacao Oriente. The itinerary is from Oriente station to Coimbra-B station. Lisboa-Coimbra (direction Braga). There are trains almost every hour.
In order to know the timetables, you see check the website: www.cp.pt, and then you choose “Timetables” – “Alfa Pendular and Intercidades” - “Lisboa/Porto-Braga-Guimarães”. You will see then the timetable of departure at “LISBOA-ORIENTE” and the timetable of arrival at “COIMBRA-B”. At COIMBRA-B train station, you may take a taxi to the Hotel.
  • Transfer from Oporto Airport to Coimbra
By train
Take a taxi to the train station “CAMPANHÔ and there you may take Long Distance trains. In order to know the timetables, you may consult the website: www.cp.pt, and then you must choose “Timetables” – “Alfa Pendular and Intercidades” - “Lisboa/Porto- Braga-Guimarães”. You will see then the timetable of departure at “PORTO CAMPANHA” and the timetable of arrival at “COIMBRA-B”. At COIMBRA-B train station, you may take a taxi to the Hotel.”
  • Transfer from Lisbon and Oporto airport
A shuttle service between Coimbra and both airports.

MitoEAGLE and MiPsociety

MitoEAGLE
  • The MitoEAGLE network aims to improve our knowledge on mitochondrial function in health and disease related to Evolution, Age, Gender, Lifestyle and Environment. Every study of mitochondrial (mt) function and disease is faced with EAGLE as the essential background conditions characterizing the individual patient, subject, study group, species, tissue or even cell line.
Membership in the MitoEAGLE network is open to all researchers sharing an interest in mitochondrial research and medicine
» Join the COST Action CA15203 MITOEAGLE

MiPsociety
  • The MiPsociety is an international organization, based in Austria and operating world-wide. It has become a legal body in 2011 continuing a tradition of rigorous mitochondrial bioenergetics; integrating molecular, cellular and organismic physiology and pathology.
Membership is open to all researchers

Feedback from the MiPschool Tromso-Bergen 2018

The evaluation of the present and previous training schools will be integrated into the programme of the MitoEAGLE/MiPschool 2019 in Coimbra, PT:
  1. Abstracts selected for oral presentations (10+5 min) are retained - training for conference presentations with critical discussions.
  2. Meet the expert sessions are emphasized - training in small groups, discussions on a large variety of topics.
  3. Introductory lectures are extended, replacing conference-style presentations by invited lecturers. Three specific topics are introduced in detail:
(a) reproducibility of sample preparations;
(b) concepts of respirometric SUIT protocols;
(c) interpretation of results.
